The Train by Rosemary Noble

I caught a Southern train today
Five years since my last commute
I sat beneath a sky of grey
Waiting for a train that’s late

Ding dong the announcement’s played
Broken train, electrical fault
On the cold, hard seat I stayed
As seagulls swooped and cried and sailed

While all around has stayed the same
I have moved on to projects new
No more the frequent phone call home
Sorry the train’s delayed again
